(Yonhap) – The women’s national soccer team has returned home after being eliminated from the 2023 FIFA World Cup Australia-New Zealand with a 1-1 draw and two losses. The Women’s National Team, led by head coach Colleen Bell 스포츠토토존 (England), arrived at Incheon International Airport on Friday after wrapping up their World Cup group stage campaign. The entire squad arrived with the exception of 16-year-old mixed-race player Casey Eugene Fair (PDA), who flew back to her native United States. At the tournament, South Korea competed in Group H with Germany, Colombia, and Morocco and finished last in the group with one draw and two losses.Defeats to Colombia 0-2 on Sept. 25 and Morocco 0-1 on Sept. 30 virtually eliminated them from the round of 16, and they had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Germany on Sept. 3 when they needed a big win to avoid elimination. After reaching the round of 16 for the first time in Canada in 2015 and then crashing out in France in 2019 after three consecutive group stage defeats, South Korea’s women’s soccer team has spent nearly four years with Bell, its first foreign coach, preparing for this tournament, but the barriers have only gotten higher. While the team’s final victory over FIFA No. 2 Germany in the round of 16 was hailed as a “triumph of the species,” it was also a sobering reminder of the reality of the tournament, as they were knocked out by Morocco, ranked 72nd in the FIFA rankings. With a number of challenges ahead of them, including the need for generational change, the team will now look forward to the Hangzhou Asian Games, which kick off next month. In women’s soccer at the Hangzhou Asian Games, which begin on Sept. 25, South Korea is in Group E with Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Myanmar. The top five finishers from each group and the best three finishers from each group will compete for a medal in the quarterfinals.South Korea has won bronze at the last three Asian Games in women’s soccer (Guangzhou 2010, Incheon 2014, Jakarta-Palembang 스포츠토토존 2018).The Asian Games will be followed by the second Asian qualifying round for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in October. The WK League, which has been suspended since June 16, will resume on June 22.
