Indian Casino and Hard Rock Resort in Mettler Win Federal Government Approval

The Tezon Indian Tribe has received final approval to proceed with the Metler Casino project. The casino project is expected to be the backbone of the tribe’s partner Hard Rock International Hospitality Corporation’s $600 million hotel project.

According to sources, the resort is expected to create more than 2,000 permanent jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars in annual regional economic benefits.

The U.S. Department of the Interior has agreed to invest 320 acres of land in a federal trust in Mettler, near Bakersfield in Southern California. The Home Office also agreed to give the class III gaming compact to Tejon Tribe and Hard Rock International to attract slot machines and blackjacks.

Hard Rock International, a global hospitality company, launched the project with Tejon Tribe in 2019, and announced that it would take 18 to 24 months to complete the project if approved by the competent authorities.

The new facility will feature a 165,500-square-foot casino with 3,000 slots and will include a 400-room hotel, 13 food and drink options, rock spa and fitness facilities, and hard rock live and “the largest conference and conference space in Con County.”

Construction will begin as soon as the 1,200-member tribe officially owns the building, as approved Thursday by the U.S. Department of the Interior. But the Indian tribe and its Florida-based partners begin celebrating the decision they made after the case review process. The process involved Gov. Gavin Newsom, the state legislature, and the Kern County Board of Supervisors.
