Iga Cibionte (No. 2-Poland) and Jessica Pegula (No. 5-U.S.) will meet in the final match of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour season finale. Wozniacki defeated Arina Sabalenka (No. 1-Belarus) 2-0 (6-3 6-2) in the singles semifinals on day eight of the WTA Finals ($9 million purse) in Cancún, Mexico, on Saturday .Earlier in the day, Pegula also defeated Coco Goff (#3-USA) 2-0 (6-2 6-1) in the quarterfinals to reach the final .The tournament was originally scheduled to conclude with the quarterfinals on Friday and the final on Saturday, but due to inclement weather the day before, the semifinal between Civion Tech and Sabalenka was pushed back a day. A win for Civion Tech in the final would see her reclaim the world number one ranking.
She lost the world number one ranking to Sabalenka at the end of the US Open in early September, and a win here would see her return to the top spot for the first time in almost two months .The WTA Finals is the season finale for singles, inviting the top eight players in the world to compete in a group stage followed by a best-of-four tournament to determine the winner. It is followed by the WTA 125 Series events, which are one level below the tour, until the end of the year. The head-to-head record between Civion Tech and Pegula is 5-3 in favor of Civion Tech. However, they have met three times this year, with Pegula holding a 2-1 lead, including a 2-1 (6-2 6-7<4-7> 6-4) victory in their most recent meeting in the Rogers Cup quarterfinals in August. Pegula, whose mother (Kim Pegula) was born in Seoul and adopted to the United States, won the WTA Tour’s Hana Bank 슬롯 Korea Open in Seoul in October.
