Kim Yeon-kyoon (30), a women’s national volleyball team libero and wife of SSG Landers pitcher Seo Dong-min (29), applauded her husband’s decision to retire.
The professional baseball SSG Landers officially announced on the 24th that “Pitcher Seo Dong-min has expressed his intention to retire,” announcing an additional notice that some players could not renew their contracts.
Seo Dong-min, who was born in 1994, graduated from Daegu High School and achieved his professional dream with 58th place in the second round of the sixth round of SK, the predecessor of SSG, in the 2014 rookie draft.
Seo Dong-min, who resolved his military service as a social service worker upon joining the team, made his debut in the first team in 2020, six years after being nominated as a professional after a long second team career. He learned the atmosphere of the first team with a 5.40 ERA in nine games in his first year, and made his name known to fans by leaving a 5.13 ERA in 20 games in 2021 and a one-win, five-hold ERA in 20 games in 2022. 토토사이트
This year, the first team call-up was made only in September when the expansion entry was implemented. However, he had only two opportunities. After allowing no run in one inning against KIA on Sept. 2, he was replaced after only giving two walks in the game against Hanwha on Sept. 7, which resulted in Seo’s retirement game.
Seo Dong-min decided to retire at the young age of 29 with a 4.13 ERA (26 earned in 56 ⅔) left in 51 games, one win, one loss, and five holds.
Seo Dong-min drew attention in July last year by getting married rather than playing baseball. He announced the birth of a new sports star couple by signing a one-hundred-year contract with Kim Yeon-kyoon, a libero of Hyundai Engineering & Construction in the women’s V-League.
Kim Yeon-kyeon is a libero who represents women’s volleyball. After graduating from Daegu Girls’ High School, she was named the fifth in the third round of the 2011-2012 V-League Rookie Draft, and is spending her 13th season at Hyundai Engineering & Construction alone.
Kim Yeon-kyeon is a living legend in the libero community, ranking fourth (5809) in the history of deegg success and fifth (8307) in defense success. Kim Yeon-kyeon signed a three-year, no-option FA contract with her original team Hyundai Engineering & Construction ahead of the 2023-2024 season.
Kim Yeon-kyeon, who defeated GS Caltex 3-1 at Suwon Gymnasium on the 26th, told reporters, “My husband is retiring, and I felt very strange as well. It was also touching. It’s great that I decided to retire from the baseball I’ve been playing so far,” adding, “I told my husband that he had a hard time. As the competition in the baseball world is strong, I think it’s great that he has endured there. You had a hard time.”
“It’s a shame that I can’t watch my husband play baseball anymore. He’s the coolest guy in his day job,” he said. “It’s a shame, but I’m going to cheer him on because I have to start something else.”
Seo’s second life has not been decided yet. The couple will take a break for a while and seek a career path together. “I will take a break for about a month and organize my thoughts and have a conversation,” Kim said. “I don’t think I have decided what I will do in the future yet.”
“I don’t know how long I’m going to play volleyball. I’ll do my best for now,” said Kim, who is set to continue her professional career alone due to her 29-year-old husband’s early retirement.
