Indian players Eldhose Paul, Sandeep Kumar, Avinashi Sable and Abdullah Abubaker were warmly welcomed at Delhi Airport on Tuesday after completing their successful Commonwealth Games 2022 campaign in Birmingham. Eldhose Paul told ANI: “I’m happy that the national anthem was playing and the first two players came from India. I was proud. We were already preparing for the Asian Games with CWG. But now Indians can do magical things. We will have to continue to work hard and break the restrictions set by us.”

Paul took first place on his third attempt with a top jump of 17.03 meters. He made the first 17m jump of the final. He took home the gold medal. Abinashi Sable won a silver medal for the country after finishing second in the men’s 3000 m steeplechase final on Saturday. He did not participate in the medal race because he was in fourth place when he first crossed the 1,000m and 2,000m respectively. However, in the last 1,000 meters, he accelerated to go to second place and won a silver medal for the country. He clocked his best time of 8:11.20.20 seconds.

Sandeep Kumar said he will try to do better in the upcoming Asian and Olympic Games. Sandeep Kumar added a bronze medal to India’s medal tally after finishing third in the men’s 10,000 m walk final on Sunday. Kumar recorded his best time of 38 minutes and 49.21 seconds.

India finished fourth in the medal tally with 22 gold, 15 silver and 23 bronze medals, while the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham ended with a stunning closing ceremony at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on Monday. Victoria, Australia, will be the next host of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
