Under the agreement, each institution will increase the pride of Jeju Haenyeo, which has supported the Jeju economy, and cooperate with each other to preserve Jeju’s unique haenyeo culture and transmit it to future generations. Since 2016, Jeju has been in relationship with Jeju Haenyeo, which is Jeju’s representative brand and registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Property, and has worked together to prepare and collaborate on various support measures for haenyeo, including sharing a meal, flogging with haenyeo, and home games to register as a UNESCO cultural heritage.
In particular, through this agreement, Jeju actively supports the promotion of Jeju Haenyeo culture and the industrialization of haenyeo contents.
