Who is ‘Hong TOP’… Hong Myung-protection announces 30-day national team roster

Who’s on top?

The South Korean national soccer team, led by head coach Hong Myung-bo, will announce its roster in October ahead of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2026 North and Central America Third Asian Qualifier. According to the Korea Football Association on Oct. 23, the roster will be announced at 11 a.m. on Oct. 30 at the Football Hall in Jongno-gu, Seoul. It will be Hong’s second roster announcement since taking over the reins of the national team. The team will play three away matches against Jordan at the Amman International Stadium in Jordan on Oct. 10 before returning home to face Iraq at the Seoul World Cup Stadium 카지노사이트 on Oct. 15.

Iraq (55th) and Jordan (68th) are ranked lower than South Korea (23rd) in the FIFA rankings, but as the results of the first and second games showed, they cannot afford to be complacent. The team drew 0-0 in the first leg against Kuwait on May 5 and won 3-1 against Oman on May 10.

The biggest concern is up front. Hong has chosen to start Min Ji-kyu (Ulsan) and Oh Se-hoon (Machida). Against Oman, he also used Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton) up front due to a tactical change during the game.

However, they have struggled for their clubs. Lee In-gyu hasn’t scored in the league in more than two months since scoring against FC Seoul on July 13th. Oh Se-hoon, who plays in Japan’s J-League, has only scored one goal in August and September.

There is no word yet on the return of former national team striker Cho Kyu-sung (Mitwillan). “It will take more time for him to return,” Danish outlet Tipsbladet recently reported. Cho Kyu-sung underwent meniscus surgery after the end of last season due to a knee injury, and has been ruled out due to complications from the surgery.

Oh Hyun-kyu (Henk) has been a standout amongst the players. Oh scored a goal in the 38th minute of the second half to seal a 4-0 victory over FCV Dendere EH in the eighth round of the 2024-2025 Belgian Professional Football State League at the Segeka Arena in Heinke, Belgium, on March 23. It was the first Belgian goal for Oh, who joined Feyenoord this summer, and his first goal in six games since joining the club.

In Hong’s tactical system, the center of gravity of the attack is in the second line. Son Heung-min (Tottenham) is the centerpiece, supported by Lee Kang-in (PSG), Lee Jae-sung (Mainz), and Hwang Eui-chan (Wolverhampton). In fact, in the second leg against Oman, it was Son Heung-min’s footwork that proved to be the difference.

However, Hong is likely to give more chances to Lee Min-gyu and Oh Se-hoon. However, if the weight of the front line cannot keep up with the heft of the attacking duo in the October A match, he will likely make changes.

Meanwhile, the federation explained that there is a possibility of moving the fourth home match against Iraq from the originally planned Seoul World Cup Stadium to another venue. The federation has sent a letter to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) indicating that it may move the match to a new venue, as it believes that the turf at the Seoul World Cup Stadium is not fit to play A matches.
