GS CALTEX LEAPS TO SECOND PLACE IN ‘MOMA DERBY’ WITH WIN OVER HYUNDAI E&C

GS Caltex swept its first match of the season against Hyundai E&C in what has been dubbed the ‘Moma Derby’.GS Caltex defeated Hyundai E&C in straight sets, 3-0 (25-16 25-20 25-14), in a home match of the Dodram 2023-2024 V League Women’s Division at Jangchung Gymnasium in Jung-gu, Seoul on March 3.GS Caltex improved to 11 points (4-1), pushing Hyundai E&C (10-3) into second place. The gap between them and first-place Heungkuk Life (12-4-1) is one point.GS Caltex faced Leticia Moma Basoko (real name Moma) for the first time on the day.Moma was GS Caltex’s main shooter in the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons, but this season she wore a Hyundai E&C uniform.

GS Caltex held Moma to 12 points (41.38% shooting percentage).GS Caltex’s foreign player, Giselle Silva (registered name Silva), scored a team-high 21 points (51.35% attack percentage).GS Caltex took the lead for the first time at 9-9 in the first set on a late attack by Silva, then scored on an open attack by Silva in the ensuing rally to take an 11-9 lead. At 13-11, an open attack by Choi Eun-ji, a service ace by Jung Dae-young, an attack error by Hyundai E&C’s Jung Jeong-yoon, and a service ace by Jung Dae-young sealed the win at 17-11.In the tense second set, GS Caltex broke away from 21-19 with a kill by Chung and a quick opener by Silva to take a 23-19 lead.
