Korean Air and Korea Express, the men’s and women’s teams that won the Professional Volleyball League V championships last season, are struggling. Both teams have fallen into a losing streak after suffering back-to-back defeats in their last three matches.

Outside hitters Jeon Sae-yan, Ko Eui-jeong, and Apojit Tanacha have been rotating, but the team has yet to find an optimal combination. Rookie No. 1 draft pick Kim Se-bin is also playing as a middle blocker, but she still needs to grow, so it’s hard to expect any immediate results.
The team was also hampered by the loss of setter Lee Yoon-jung to a knee injury just before the start of the season. Lee returned at the end of the first round and has been improving her form, but she is still not at full strength. In the match against Hyundai E&C on July 7, she was criticized by Korea Expressway Corporation head coach Kim Jong-min for underutilizing the center hitter. Unable to rely solely on Lee Yoon-jung in the setter role, Kim is using rookie setter Park Eun-ji, born in 2004, as a backup.
Korean Air and Korea Express will look to turn things around in their upcoming away matches against KEPCO and Chungkwanjang, respectively, on Sept. 13.
