The 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games (hereinafter referred to as Gangwon 2024), which is 11 days ahead of the opening, is expected to be an event that will mark a milestone in the sports history of Korea and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Gangwon 2024 sets a new milestone in the IOC’s Olympic history.At the 134th General Assembly in June 2019, the IOC deleted the provision from the Olympic Charter that ‘the next host city will be decided by vote at the General Assembly seven years before the Olympic Games’.As the number of cities wishing to host the Olympics decreased, and as more cities gave up on hosting the Olympics due to concerns about massive investment, the IOC removed the decision clause seven years ago and replaced it with a permanent decision system in order to pursue a sustainable Olympics.

Additionally, the concept of the venue was expanded from one city to multiple cities, regions, and countries.This lays the foundation for holding the Olympics in a distributed manner by dividing the financial burden on a specific city among several cities within the same region.Accordingly, the system for determining the Olympic host site has also changed.Before the 134th General Assembly, IOC members decided the next host site by voting at a general meeting for all cities competing to host the Olympics.However, after changing the selection method, the IOC launched a separate Future Host Committee for the Winter and Summer Olympics, which evaluates candidate sites in advance in detail, and single candidates recommended by the Future Host Committee are approved by the Executive Committee and voted on at the General 슬롯게이밍 Assembly.
