Son Heung-min’s Tottenham Hotspur are poised to offload a number of players in the summer transfer window. The list includes players who have proven to be problematic in the past.
They can’t put it off any longer.
“Tottenham boss Anzhi Postecoglou could authorize the sale of 10 players in the summer transfer window,” according to English soccer publication Football London on Friday.
The publication listed the players in question. They are goalkeeper Brandon Austin, defenders Japhet Tanganga, Sergio Leguilon, and Jed Spence, midfielders Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, and Alfie Divine, and forwards Dane Scarlett, Troy Ferrett, and Brian Hill.
Most are on loan. Tanganga, Leguilon, Spence, Ndombele, Divine, and Ferrett are on loan from other teams. These are players who have been ruled out of favor and Spurs will have to get rid of them in the summer transfer window.
Ndombele and Leguilon are two of the most eye-catching names.
Ndombele arrived in North London in 2019 as Tottenham’s club-record transfer fee of £63 million, but he hasn’t made much of an impact. Football came later and he struggled with weight management. He was expected to become an integral part of Tottenham’s midfield, but he fell far short of expectations. He”s been out on loan for two and a half seasons now.
Leguilon is no different. Leguilon came to Tottenham with high expectations from Real Madrid. He seemed to establish himself as a left fullback at the start of the season, but then he struggled and didn’t stay at Spurs. This season alone, he has gone out on loan to Manchester United and back to Spurs before returning to Brentford for a six-month spell starting in January.
Of the players who remain at Spurs, two names that stand out are Hojbjerg and Hill. Hojbjerg’s departure this summer has been widely expected.
He also changed his agent ahead of the summer transfer window. Juventus, Atletico Madrid, and other clubs have been rumored to be interested. His form has dropped off since last season, and he’s barely featured in the starting lineup under Postecoglou this season.
Hill is a 2001-born winger who was a highly touted Tottenham signing from Sevilla in Spain.
He is still young, but he hasn’t shown much since joining Spurs. He showed flashes of brilliance in Spain, but in the Premier League, he has shown many weaknesses, such as being easily overpowered. In December last year, he was scolded by Son Heung-min for dragging the ball in a game against Man City.
