Boston is likely to sign a major extension to one of its top players.
Mark Steyn of The Steyn Line reported on Tuesday that the Boston Celtics could sign Jayson Tatum and Derrick White to extensions.
Boston had a dominant 2023-2024 season. After dominating the regular season, the Celtics finished with a 64-17 record and first place in the Eastern Conference, and they didn’t have much of a crisis in the playoffs. They finished the Finals with a 4-1 record and won their first championship in 16 years, 스포츠토토존 since 2008.
Boston has restored its pride as the NBA’s most prestigious franchise. They’re not looking to win one championship, they’re looking to stay in power for the long haul. They’ll be spending an unimaginable amount of money on the luxury tax, but they’re willing to take it.
Ace Jayson Tatum, the new symbol of Celtics pride, is on pace to break the NBA record for the largest contract in history, set by teammate Jaylen Brown. Tatum is eligible for a five-year, $315 million extension this summer, and it’s highly likely that Boston will match that offer.
As Stein writes, “Jayson Tatum’s five-year, $315 million extension is considered as much of a given around the league as a layup in an empty gym. However, verbal agreement on a deal could take some time, as Tatum will have to participate in the championship parade in Boston after his victory party in Miami.”
Another trade success story, Derrick White, is also a strong candidate for an extension. White, who has one year remaining on his contract, can earn up to four years and $126 million if he extends this summer.
“Derrick White will almost certainly benefit from an extension this offseason,” Stein writes.
In addition to Tatum and White, the Celtics also recently signed Brown, Jrue Holiday, and Kristaps Porzingis to one-year extensions. Their starting lineup for the 2025-2026 season is expected to have a combined salary of nearly $200 million.
