Pepper Savings Bank’s Zhang Yu enters ‘Asia Quarter No. 1’ with “maximum commitment”

Zhang Yu (29-China), the No. 1 overall middle blocker in the Asia Quarterfinals, has arrived in South Korea.

Pepper Savings Bank AI Peppers announced today that “Zhang Yu, who was selected as the Asia Quarter player for the 2024-25 season, has arrived in South Korea via Gimpo International Airport.”

Zhang will undergo a medical test upon arrival and then join the training camp. He will also meet with fans before the start of the 파워볼게임 season.

The 5-foot-9 Zhang was selected by Pepper Savings Bank as the No. 1 pick for the 2024 Korea Volleyball Organization (KOVO) Women’s Asian Quarterly Tryout in May.

She has played for BAIC Motor in the Chinese League since 2013, where she was named the league’s best middle blocker. She also has plenty of experience in big games, having been named to the China U-23 National Team in 2015, where she won the Asian Championship title.

“I want to dedicate myself as much as possible to help the team perform well this season,” Zhang said.

“Zhang Yue will add more height to our team and enrich our offensive options,” said Pepper Savings Bank head coach Jang Ji-yeon. “We will help him adapt to the team quickly. We will thoroughly prepare for the off-season to build the best possible team.”

Pepper Savings Bank also acquired the No. 1 overall pick in the foreign draft, selecting Croatian “apogee spiker” Barbara Javic (191 cm).

After a promising start to the season with the addition of free agent Park Jung-ah, Pepper Savings Bank finished at the bottom of the league for the first time in the V-League Women’s Division for three consecutive years. It will be interesting to see if the losing team can rebound this season with a new coach, strong foreign players, and the No. 1 ranking in the Asian quarterfinals.
