“It was a complete shock…but LG has been everything to us for the past six years.”
“For the past six years, the LG Twins have been everything to us”
When it was time for Casey Kelly, 35, to say goodbye to the LG Twins, his wife Ariel Kelly, who has always been by his side, couldn’t hold back the tears.
Kelley left the organization for the last time on Nov. 20 with a farewell ceremony at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul. On the day of his release, Kelley volunteered to pitch one last game, starting against the Doosan Bears and throwing 2⅔ innings of scoreless relief with one hit, one walk, and one strikeout. However, the game was suspended due to rain, and Kelly’s 74th KBO victory was canceled when the game was called a no-game.
After the no-game was called, Kelly took a moment to say one last goodbye to the fans. It was a special event organized by LG to honor Kelly for his six seasons of dedication to the team. Kelly sobbed profusely in the pouring rain, and his LG teammates and fans couldn’t hold back their tears.
Kelly’s wife Ariel, who attended the farewell ceremony, was also overcome with emotion as she shared her final thoughts. Ariel had previously posted an affectionate post on her social media to say goodbye to her husband, Kelly.
Ariel said, “I am completely shocked and so sad. But all I can say is that I am so proud of you (Kelly). Your love, passion, and loyalty to LG is unparalleled. You really love this team, and (LG) has been our home for the last five and a half years,” he said.
“I know how sad it is for you to know that this (Tuesday) will be your last game at LG. You didn’t say the night before (Nov. 19) that you wanted to be with your teammates on the field for the last time. I know that you really love your teammates and that it was 온라인카지노사이트 more important for you to (pitch) for the fans. I love you so much,” he wrote.
Ariel, who joined Kelly in addressing LG fans at the farewell ceremony, said, “LG has been everything to us for the past six years. “LG has been a very special team to us, and the fans have made us feel at home here,” she said, adding, ”It’s very sad that this (farewell) moment is coming, but the genuine love from the fans has been like nothing else. Thank you for always treating our family so well. I love you so much and I will miss you so much,” he said, before breaking down in tears.
After his wife and daughter said their goodbyes, Kelly stepped down from the podium and took a big bow to the crowd to thank them again.
Since joining LG in 2019, Kelly has been the organization’s ace, posting a career record of 73-46 with a 3.25 ERA in 163 games, including five consecutive seasons with double-digit wins.
In particular, Kelly helped LG win the regular season title last year with a second-half comeback after a sluggish first half, and helped the team win the Korean Series with a 2-1 record and 1.59 ERA.
This season, however, he had his worst season since his KBO debut, going 5-8 with a 4.51 ERA in 19 games. He showed signs of resurgence, but then slipped back into a slump, showing no signs of stability. Eventually, LG decided they needed an “ace” to challenge for a championship and parted ways with the longtime favorite. The club organized an unusual farewell ceremony for the best foreign pitcher in LG’s history, and Kelly and his family said a tearful goodbye in front of the fans who have supported him for the past six years.
