“I will lead the change and development of Korean women’s basketball in line with the world trend.”
Shin Sang-hoon (76), the new president of the Korean Women’s Basketball Federation (WKBL), held an inauguration ceremony at Hotel Rivera in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 3rd and began his three-year term in earnest. 바카라사이트
Shin was an orthodox financier who served as Shinhan Bank president and CEO of Shinhan Financial Group in the 2000s. He also served as CEO of the Financial Industry Public Interest Foundation in 2021.
In 2004, while serving as Shinhan Bank’s president, Shin acquired Hyundai Industrial Development Basketball Team, founded Shinhan Bank’s S-Bird Basketball Team, and took over as the owner of the team, laying the foundation for the league’s sixth consecutive victory and forming ties with women’s basketball.
“It is true that Korea’s women’s basketball, which used to be an Asian powerhouse, has not only narrowed its international competitiveness but also its position in domestic professional sports,” Shin said. “We will put all our capabilities and sincerity into new changes and developments of women’s basketball in line with the global trend.” In the meantime, Shin promised to make efforts to create a competitive league where fans come and expand the base of women’s basketball.
When Park Ji-soo and Big Ji-hyun, who represented the WKBL, entered overseas leagues, raising concerns about the league’s success, Governor Shin said, “We will try to attract about 30 percent more spectators to the stadium in the new season through various events and marketing,” adding, “We will show our greed to increase the number by more than 50 percent during the term.” Citing the expansion of the base of women’s basketball, Shin said, “There are only 18 high schools with women’s basketball teams. It is a very poor environment compared to 3,000 Japan.”
President Shin, who introduced himself as a fan of women’s basketball’s cool three-point shooting, declined to say about the creation of the seventh team, saying, “I have a heart, but it’s hard to say in detail right now.”
