Intralot’s sports betting contract is set to expire this summer, and during a roundtable discussion in January, lottery chairman Frank Suarez shared with the DC Council that Intralot had proposed subcontracting its digital sports betting platform. In early March, OLG wrote to the DC Council, saying it had approved Intralot’s proposal to replace Gambet DC with a platform run by FanDuel.

At a roundtable meeting in January, McDuffie questioned the timing of the presentation. “With about six months left on your contract, have you figured out a way to do things better?” McDuffie asked Suarez during the roundtable. “And should we believe you’ve figured it out? I can’t believe it.”

This will affect BetMGM (Washington Nationals/Nationals Park), Caesars Sportsbook (Washington Wizards/Capital One Arena), and FanDuel (DC United/Audi Field).

BetMGM and Caesars currently offer digital sports betting within sports arenas and two block zones, each with an offline sportsbook. Under the new legislation, there is no geo-fencing around sports arenas, but geo-fencing will remain around federal lands across the city.
